We are all aware that the grass verges and basal growth (trees) are not being maintained as regularly as they have been historically. Please let’s not dwell on that piece on this post.
Many residents are maintaining the grass verges in front of their property, we would like to invite you to extend that effort and remove any lower tree growth on trees outside your property that would normally have been trimmed back.
Untrimmed trees are a safety hazard ;
- Endanger vulnerable pedestrians
- Branches at face height for small children
- Restrict the view of drivers and cyclists
- Obstruct the view of important traffic signs
Basal growth should be removed with a pair of sharp secateurs and the branches cut back as close to the trunk as possible (any buds left will simply start regrowing).
If you are unable to do this yourself or need some help please contact Purley in Bloom who will be more than happy to assist.
Your safety is paramount, please do not stand in or lean over the road etc when trimming.
Please do join in with this community project, we are offering a £50 voucher to be spent at a restaurant in Purley (by 31 March 2022) for the best before/after photos received (posted on Facebook or shared on email) by end of November 2021.
Please note that Croydon council is aware of this initiative.
